Luxembourg, July 10, 2026 – An impact study conducted with the support of STATEC Research confirms the lasting effects of microcredit and mentoring on entrepreneurial journeys, particularly in terms of labor market integration, business sustainability, skills development, and improved living conditions for beneficiaries. These findings were unveiled by microlux during the event celebrating its 10th anniversary, held on July 9 at the BGL BNP Paribas Auditorium.
Since its creation in 2016 through an initiative by BGL BNP Paribas, ADA, the European Investment Fund (EIF), and Adie, microlux has pursued a simple goal: to enable people excluded from traditional bank financing to start or grow their businesses. Over the past ten years, more than 1,200 project leaders have received support, 322 entrepreneurs have received microloans, more than 5 million euros have been disbursed, and 550 jobs have been created or preserved in Luxembourg.
A study confirming a lasting impact
Conducted among Microlux beneficiaries, this second impact study shows, in particular, that:
Beyond the numbers, the study shows that microcredit, combined with personalized support, serves as a catalyst for social and professional integration and entrepreneurial development for people who, without this solution, would often not have had access to the financing needed to bring their projects to fruition.
Ten Years of Collective Action
These results are also part of a collective effort that has been building for the past ten years through the “microlux ecosystem,” which brings together private, public, and European partners to promote inclusive entrepreneurship. Nicolas Otton, Chairman of the Executive Committee of BGL BNP Paribas and Head of the BNP Paribas Group in Luxembourg, emphasizes the importance of this cooperation:
“Behind every figure in this study is an entrepreneur who has been able to turn an idea into a project. It is this ability to open up new opportunities that gives full meaning to BGL BNP Paribas’s commitment to microlux over the past ten years, ensuring access to financing—an essential factor for inclusion and economic development in Luxembourg.”
This effort was also praised by Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, who has supported microlux since its inception. In a video message shown during the anniversary celebration, she paid tribute “to all those who make this possible. “First and foremost, to the microlux teams, the founding members, public and private partners, the volunteers who give their time, expertise, and energy, and, of course, the entrepreneurs themselves.”
Continue and Expand the Impact
Building on the insights from this study, microlux intends to continue expanding its operations in order to further increase its impact on entrepreneurs who face difficulties accessing traditional financing. Anne Muller, Chair of the Board of Directors at microlux, is already looking toward the future:
“For the next ten years, microlux’s goal is clear: to continue opening doors, creating opportunities, and enabling more people to turn an idea into a concrete project. microlux’s activities have proven their impact; and the organization now intends to focus its efforts on increasing that impact. By pursuing this mission alongside its partners, volunteers, staff, and the entrepreneurs themselves, microlux aims to continue contributing to a form of entrepreneurship that is more inclusive, more human, and fully rooted in the realities of Luxembourg.”
